I’m glad your kids have discovered the big bands. You and I are about the same age—I may be a year or two younger —and both our dads introduced us to it. Any time The Glenn Miller Story or The Benny Goodman Story is on TCM, I could watch either one. And did you see the piece in the WSJ mentioning that a definitive new 7-disc set of the Benny Goodman Orchestra is just out?
Oh, and my wife’s cellphone ringtone? Miller’s “Pennsylvania 6-5000.” Is it any wonder I’m crazy about her?
