I don’t know what the polls will say, but to this long-time Utah resident, Chris Cannon came across as very soft on illegal immigration, and that would have been my main reason for opposing
him.
As for Chaffetz supporting Dukakis: Give him a break! What you (and the newspaper article you linked to) conveniently failed to mention is that Dukakis is Chaffetz’s stepfather. How many college kids (which Chaffetz was at the time) refuse to support their close family members like this?
Even if he were a true believer then, how long is that to be held against him? In 1992, NR didn’t get around to endorsing GHWB until its November 16 issue, which arrived in my mailbox *after* the election, thus giving aid and comfort to the Clinton forces. Should I hold that against NR in perpetuity?
