According to this welcome critic, David Cameron frets about the unpleasing gender balance among Tory MPs and wants to make his party more friendly to female candidates. He proposes sparing the poor shy dears the requirement to give a political speech to the local politicos who (I guess) pick candidates. He would have lots of company should he adopt a double standard in the name of equality, but it would violate the standard set by Margaret Thatcher.
