re: Most married people manage to stay faithful.

That’s sure not the impression a lot of kids get today.

By “tough situation” I look only to his words to Woodruff — he didn’t deal with the attention and the pressure well. That’s not to let him cast himself a victim, but it’s worth reflecting on. If I’m a kid today, I probably think Americans value celebrity more than traditional marriage.

While we’re casting stones at John Edwards, it’s not a bad exercise to look in a cultural window. That’s all. I think that’s less about charity to Edwards than concern for us all.

Thank God, meanwhile, for all who do provide examples of successful marriage in the world. We’re better for you.
