Re: An Obama obit

David, the Kaletsky piece is profoundly wrong about racism underpinning Obama’s weakness but it’s not a Brit thing – after all, The New York Times has a similar piece today. So I don’t think it’s helpful to get into a whose-electorate-is-more-racist? contest. But just for the record Dadabhai Naoroji, an Indian born into poverty in Gujarat, was elected to the House of Commons by the all but all white electorate of Finsbury in north London in 1892. Sir Mancherjee Merwanjee Bhownagree was elected as member for Bethnal Green in 1896.
