CEI’s own Greg Conko has written several times about the way the EU has caused Uganda to back off on genetic modification of its banana to make it resistant to the disease (see here), but he also notes, “This story has been kicking around for the better part of the past decade…while biotechnology almost certainly could save the Gros Michel, it’s not at all clear that it really is as threatened as is sometimes claimed.”
