Stephen, you mentioned the Democrats’ “Republicans did it too!” argument on runaway spending. But many have also been quoted this week saying that large increases are needed to make up for savage budget cuts by the Republicans. In other words, Republicans are irresponsible big spenders . . . who savagely cut spending. That makes sense.
