Re: Our Indefatigable CIA

Bing, you are absolutely correct about the Langley Home for Lost Boys. Indeed, one might say that the CIA is now in full CYA mode, which means things are pretty much situation normal at the Agency. With the Benghazi fiasco, the Company’s stunning record of ineptitude marches on: taken by surprise by the malevolence of the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979, by the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, by the faux-democracy of the Islamist “Arab Spring,” and now this.

So it’s not surprising to see one of the master desk jockeys use his stooges at the New York Times to peddle a heaping helping of choice baloney. (If the national-security reporters at the Times and the Washington Post could hear the way intelligence professionals talk about them privately, they’d never show their faces in public again.) As the primus inter pares of the IC, the Agency has a budget to uphold, if not much of a reputation.

Which brings us to the curious incident of the dog in the night-time: Where is director David Petraeus? He could settle this — and most likely settle President Obama’s hash — with one press conference. Because Benghazi is now worse than a blunder: It’s a crime. And the public deserves to know the truth, preferably before November 6.
