A source familiar with the situation tells me that “they
made absolutely sure that the stem cell lines in question were created
before August 9, 2001, so the lines are so-called ‘Bush approved’ lines,
which can be legally funded by the federal government. The lines in question
are on the NIH registry.” Why the Pentagon is involved in this at all, though, remains a mystery, however.
