Several readers are miffed about my joke that we will ask our interns to make the penultimate sacrifice. Asks one typical reader: “The interns will make their second-to-last sacrifice? Is their last sacrifice forthcoming?”
Well, my point was that we do not ask our interns to go on suicide missions, even for exit poll data. We’re for the most part pro-life around here and we look askance at things like suicide bombings — this ain’t the University of Pennsylvania after all! So, my jokey point was that we expect the ‘terns to take a beating or watch Studio 60, but not actually give their lives for the cause.
