re: Revere

Rich: Another way to learn about Paul Revere’s ride is to read the poem by Longfellow. This is one of America’s great national poems: “Listen, my children, and you shall hear / Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.”

Like Palin, Longfellow messed up a few of his facts. (David Hackett Fischer says the poem is “grossly, systematically, and deliberately inaccurate.”) But it’s still a good poem, with much to like. I wrote about it in December, on the occasion of its 150th anniversary
