Gotta disagree with you about the propriety of inviting Romney to Dayton if he is not the VP pick. One way or the other, Romney is going to be a campaign surrogate for McCain. He’s already performing in the role, and it will continue through the fall, particularly in Michigan and in Western battleground states where he has a strong following (NV and CO). He seems ready and willing to do it, and I think that if he’s not the pick today there is still a not-so-subtle message from the McCain campaign that the two are now friendly and that Romney would probably be tapped for a high post in a McCain administration, such as Treasury or Commerce.
