John, I don’t think you have to read your book (and read it, I shall) to think the idea of President Giuliani is a complete non-starter with the Christian conservative bloc. The man is obviously the most lapsed of Catholics in his politics and his personal life. I can easily imagine a repeat of Catholic bishops who will be firm enough to insist they’d deny Giuliani the Eucharist.

For Andrew (as I explained about Newt a few weeks ago), please remember that if we’re all looking at a campaign against Hillary Cheated-On Clinton, we have additional political reasons not to run a nominee whom the Carvilles and Begalas will pound shamelessly and mercilessly on their slick-Willie sensuality.

For Jonah, I’m sure someone made exactly your argument for George H.W. Bush. He was not a social conservative, but he was so apparently beholden to social conservatives he gave them Justice Souter.
