Andrew – I think your skepticism is warranted. I’m pretty skeptical of Waldman’s whole thesis, but I do think it’s an interesting one to mull around. I do think you could see tribes of environmentalist, tribes of Wicca and the like, but tribes under the broad rubric of “secularists,” I kind of doubt it too.
