Mark, your take on Scheuer is spot on — many of exactly the same thoughts ran through my head when I saw him on Bill Maher’s show last Friday. But there was one crucial difference. When he very directly announced that Israel isn’t worth “one U.S. life, or one U.S. dollar” to defend, even Maher and a huge chunk of his liberal audience were taken a back. It’s also amazing to me that anyone who holds that opinion — even as a function of merely impassively observing the what’s in the U.S.’s interest — gets to be in such a prominent position at the CIA.
