Re: Stupak Speaks

Well, I guess that answers Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s (D., Mich.) question. She said Senate Dems are “at this point . . . looking to see what the mood of the House is and what they want to do.”

Stabenow favors a ping-pong, saying she would be “very satisfied if the House passed what the Senate did and then we can work on those areas that need to be strengthened or fixed” in subsequent legislation.

But rank and file House Democrats like Stupak and Weiner know that isn’t going to happen, and now even Speaker Pelosi is coming out and saying it:

“I think everyone [involved in the health-care negotiations] agrees that there are certain things in the Senate bill that must be changed,” she told the Washington Post today. “We do have our differences, and our members want to resolve those differences.”
