I think Jonah makes great points, and it reminds me of something I used to say at the White House when people would complain that we had a communications problem on this or that. Sometimes that was true, but that was usually because we had a fact problem. And that’s what they are dealing with now — they can spin faster and faster, but it’ll be like watching cars try to get traction on ice . . . they won’t go anywhere until they change their approach, especially on job creation, energy, health care, and, to some extent, fighting terrorism (re: not Mirandizing a terrorist right after their arrest). People are putting too much blame on the communicators when it’s the underlying policies that need to be changed.
