Sing it, Jonah. Trump is merely replacing one delusion with another. America’s problems are our fault, not “the world’s,” and all Trump is offering is yet another refuge from reality. The Chinese, the Saudis, and all the rest are only acting in what they perceive as their interests, and, if they ever found themselves sitting across the table from Trump, they would laugh at him, as a pusher laughs when the junkie threatens to get tough. If they ever stopped laughing and took him seriously, we’d be waking up with Zimbabwean dollars in what’s left of our 401(k)s.
Beijing did not create the U.S. Social Security Administration, or Medicare, or Fannie Mae, or the Federal Department of Cowboy Poetry Festival Grant Application Compliance Regulators. (Unless, of course, the conspiracy goes way deeper than I thought.)
