What are the “safety concerns related to today’s incidents around the city” that Minneapolis Public Schools is referring to? Are they fearing riots? Anti-ICE protests getting violent? Is this some sort of nonsense that teachers and students are afraid to go to school, for fear of being shot by ICE agents?
There aren’t any. I suspect that this was done for two reasons — neither of which have anything to do with safety. The first reason is that, by canceling school, Minneapolis’s government got to draw everyone’s attention to this incident, and on its own terms. And the second reason is that a significant number of the system’s teachers want to go out and protest.
