A report out of Pakistan said, “A 17-year-old girl and her husband were killed by her family for marrying without its consent.” Yeah, what’s new, right? Dog Bites Man. Had you and I been the girl’s parents, we wouldn’t have been so happy either: The husband was 30, and had married twice before. Indeed, he was married when he took the 17-year-old for a bride. Anyway, her parents, uncles, and grandfather apparently killed them both.
But get this: “. . . the couple was hacked to death with a butcher’s knife.”
Once, Reverend William Sloane Coffin was on Firing Line with WFB. He said there was no crime of which he could not imagine himself capable. WFB expressed appropriate incredulity. So do I.
