Red Sox’s Ortiz Finishes Third in Boston Mayoral Race

Big Papi is having a memorable couple of weeks.

Not only did designated hitter David Ortiz lead the Red Sox to a World Series championship and take home the MVP trophy, but Bostonians showed their appreciation at the ballot box, too. In Tuesday’s mayoral election, Ortiz finished third overall as a write-in candidate.

While Ortiz’s exact tally is unknown, the Boston Election Department says the slugger took home most of the 560 write-in votes, well behind mayor-elect Marty Walsh (72,514 votes) and candidate John Connolly (67,606).

Since joining the Red Sox in 2003, Ortiz has been a beloved figure for fans as he has helped lead the team to three World Series championships, including their first one since 1918.
