Reid Delays Senate Vote

After delivering an emotional speech on Monday urging his colleagues to back a proposal authorizing a military intervention in Syria, Senate majority leader Harry Reid has announced he will delay a Senate vote on the measure. The majority leader indicated in a Tweet that he wants “to make sure the President has an opportunity to present his case to the Senate and the American people” before members of the upper chamber cast their votes on the proposal.

A test vote on the resolution was initially scheduled for Wednesday; after announcing the delay, Reid did not make clear when he would bring it to floor. The president is expected to make a speech to the nation on Tuesday evening arguing for military strikes against the Assad regime.
