Reid Joins Redskins Name-Change Chorus

Harry Reid is the latest member of Washington’s Democratic leadership to call for the Redskins to change their name. The team should switch it, Reid said, because “we live in a society where you can’t denigrate a race of people.”

“I mean you can’t have the Washington Blackskins,” Reid told the Hill. “I think it’s so short-sighted.”

The Senate majority leader joins President Obama and House minority leader Nancy Pelosi as top politicians who have called the “Redskins” nickname inappropriate and racially insensitive. Pelosi said it “probably would be a good idea” to change the name, while the president said he would consider changing the name because it offends “a sizeable group of people.”
