Senator Harry Reid has found something else to blame on the Koch brothers: climate change. Taking to the Senate floor, the majority leader called the philanthropic businessmen “one of the main causes” of the phenomenon.

“While the Koch brothers admit to not being experts on the matter, these billionaire oil tycoons are certainly experts at contributing to climate change — that’s what they do very well,” he said. “They are one of the main causes of this — not a cause, one of the main causes.”

Reid went on to claim the brothers were the “biggest air and water polluters period” and were “waging a war against anything that protects the environment.” “I know it sounds absurd, but it’s true,” he said.

He also pointed to the brothers’ ownership of “that ugly tar stuff” as the motivation for their support of the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline. “How unfortunate for the world that the Koch brothers trash this beautiful planet and jeopardize my children’s, my children’s children’s health and future just to add more zeros to their bank account.”

Massachusetts senator Ed Markey later joined Reid’s attacks, saying the Koch brothers “smile” at the lack of progress of Democrats’ efforts to address climate change.
