As I mentioned in The Lifeline today, there will be a Mass for the repose of the soul of Dovie Eisner, a reader of National Review and friend of many associated with us. It’s at St. Vincent Ferrer Church on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, which was the last place he went to Confession and Mass, the night before the incident that put him in a long coma. The Mass will be on October 8 at 9:30 a.m.
Thanks to the pastor of St. Vincent Ferrer, Father Peter Martyr Yungwirth, O.P., and the Tomaino family for getting it scheduled.
I understand there will be a Mass and gathering after in Brooklyn in November. The more Masses the better, is the Catholic belief! This is what Dovie would want. This is what I would want — let this be a note to all whom I die before! (Thank you.)
For more on who Dovie was, there have been some beautiful pieces about him since I first made a note of his death a few weeks ago: Maddy Kearns here, Bethany Mandel here.
Please do pray for the repose of his soul — and for his family. Please pray that their suffering saves the lives of people who do not have family to advocate for them. Dovie was in a coma for over a year and a half, surrounded by the love of family and friends and medical care the whole time. Others are pressured as they feel like they are going it alone, or want to unburden their family with the responsibility of caring for them.
There is irreplaceable mercy in love.
May the life of Dovie Eisner continue to work miracles.
