I had the great pleasure to meet Mr Montalban when he was in Detroit filming the Cordoba commercials. I was working, then, at the front desk at the Hilton Hotel downtown, and we used to get all kinds of celebrities – from actors and entertainers from the various theaters to the baseball players in town to play the Tigers.
He stopped at the counter, after dinner by himself at the Beef Baron restaurant, with a small question, but stayed talking to me for over 20 minutes about the Star Trek episode and many other things. He was a very gracious man, a true Gentleman with a capital G, and he surpasses even Whitey Ford on my list of “real-people” celebrities whom I’ve met. Good memories – he will be missed.
