Rendell Weighs In

Gov. Ed Rendell (D., Pa.), a Specter ally who campaigned hard against Sestak, issues a statement through his spokesman:

Governor Rendell believes that the White House explanation clears up any question about inappropriate conduct. It makes it clear that what they did was legal and appropriate in an attempt to avoid a divisive primary and have Congressman Sestak retain his seat in the US House.

Further, Governor Rendell had not earlier recalled that former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus had already been appointed and confirmed as Secretary of the Navy before the conversation took place, so the White House could not have offered Cong. Sestak that job.

Senator Specter’s spokesperson tells NRO that no comments from him on the matter are forthcoming.
