The Corner

Here’s a resolution from the House of Representatives calling for the creation of a partisan commission. It allocates 8 million dollars for a one-year study of slavery and discrimination in the United States, which would serve as the underpinning of legislation calling for reparations. Notice that no Republican gets to name any commissioners, and that effectively the makeup of the body will be determined by Obama and Pelosi, with Biden getting a vote (whew!).

Which I suppose would make reparations an election-year issue, wouldn’t it?

One odd feature: The commission is supposed to have subpoena power. Just why do you think it needs that?
