Today on the NRO homepage, I have taken a look at five attempts to cast Occupy Wall Street as a coherent and legitimate movement, rather than the inchoate and ineffective rabble it appears to be. While documenting the protests, I have met a diverse and entertaining range of characters, from an elder gentleman in an East German army uniform, to an anti-Semite, a 9/11 truther, and a young man in a Burberry scarf who wants his tuition paid for. These people do not represent the whole caboodle, but they goes some way to demonstrating the catch-all nature of the group. Some defenders of OWS have, indeed, embraced incoherence as a virtue — a dubious proposition in any environment.
