“This is some of the most confused, muddled political thinking we have seen in 25 years,” retired general Barry McCaffrey said of the Obama administration’s plan for intervention in Syria.

On MSNBC this morning, McCaffrey questioned why Bashar Assad would stop using chemical weapons in the future if the purpose of any potential strike is not to remove him or go after his weapon-storage sites. He posited that the Obama administration has no plan for a course of action in the event that the Assad regime ignores the West’s demands and uses chemical weapons again shortly after missile strikes.

“We are not thinking clearly about a political objective and military measures to achieve that objective,” McCaffrey said.
