I think he was popular in the stadium because not many other politicians have touched on his themes–Bush’s alleged assault on the Constitution, the importance of defending abortion, etc. These are issues that touch liberals’ erogenous zones but that a lot of Democrats recognize are losers. Richardson, by the way, departed from the text reporters were given beforehand quite a bit more than anyone else has.
