The Senate immigration subcommittee has scheduled a Rotting In The Fields hearing next week, formally titled “America’s Agricultural Labor Crisis: Enacting a Practical Solution” (aka “Pleeeeease Send More Slaves!”). If it weren’t so early in the day, I’d watch the webcast with my staff and play a drinking game: take shot every time a witness or a Senator says “rotting in the fields.” Because they can’t help themselves; Georgia congressman John Barrow told a reporter just this week, “We’ve got crops rotting in the field.” C’mon, fellas, get some new material. And some pictures of all those rotting crops would be nice, too.
