House Intelligence Committee chairman Mike Rogers (R., Mich.) accused Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius of allowing Heathcare.gov to launch with ”unacceptable level of security,” referring to a memo that showed the site was launched without complete security testing.
“You have exposed millions of Americans because you all, according to your memo, believed it was an acceptable risk,” he said during Wednesday’s House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing.
Rogers said that private contractors had previously told the committee that they would need two months to conduct the tests, but the launch went ahead anyway. The Associated Press has obtained a copy of the memo to which it appears Rogers was referring, which explains that the lack of testing “exposed a level of uncertainty that can be deemed as a high risk.”
“Amazon would never do this, ProFlowers would never do this, Kayak would never do this,” he said.
Sebelius declined Rogers’s request to shut down the system in order to conduct the proper security testing.
