Romney Adviser: Gingrich ‘Tarred and Feathered’

Tampa, Fla. — Eric Fehrnstrom, a senior adviser to Mitt Romney, tells National Review Online that the former Massachusetts governor will not pull punches at tonight’s NBC debate.

“You’re going to see him contrast very sharply with Newt Gingrich,” Fehrnstrom says.

“[Gingrich] was run out of town on a rail,” Fehrnstrom says, hinting at evening barbs. “Just because you’re tarred and feathered by members of your own party, it doesn’t make you an outsider. It makes you a failed leader.”

Up on the stage, Romney will “have an opportunity to talk about [Gingrich’s] record in Washington,” Fehrnstrom predicts, along with touting his work in the private sector

“We want to know what Nancy Pelosi knows,” he says, referencing Gingrich’s past ethics troubles. Romney, to be sure, will also press Gingrich on his work with Freddie Mac.
