A senior Romney adviser tells National Review Online that regardless of what happens this morning, Romney’s position on Obamacare will not change. “This doesn’t change the campaign one iota,” the adviser says. “Romney will carry on as usual. He’ll say that he’ll do away with all of it once he becomes president, and he’ll push for conservative ideas, like buying insurance across state lines.”
“This is not really going to change the perspective of the campaign,” the adviser says, when asked about Boston’s strategy. Jobs and the economy remain the campaign’s priority. “They’ll take a look at the health-care issue, but from a free-enterprise perspective,” in order to contrast with the president’s liberal position.
If it’s overturned, Romney’s main theme will not be affected, the adviser argues, and he will be able to highlight Obama’s ineptness. “If it’s overturned, it would show that even as a law professor, this man is incompetent,” the adviser says.
Boston isn’t sweating today’s ruling, the adviser adds. “There is no scramble here,” the adviser says. “This has been a sensitive issue for two years, and the campaign dealt with it in the primary. They hammered it harder during the primary than anyone else, and almost had to lead the attack. So they’re coming at Obamacare as a group that’s fought against it for the entirety of the campaign.”
