Romney Adviser: ‘You Hit a Reset Button for the Fall Campaign’

The Santorum campaign is blasting out Romney senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom’s response on CNN this morning, when asked if Mitt Romney could have to go too far to the right to win the nomination, thus potentially alienating moderate voters in the general election.

“Well,” Fehrnstrom said, “I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch-a-Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.”

UPDATE: “Rick Santorum is desperate to talk about anything other than the fact that his message isn’t resonating with the American people,” says Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul. “His only message is to shift attention from the fact he is an economic lightweight. As Gov. Romney moves from the primary to the general election, the campaign changes. It’s a different race, with different candidates, and the main issue now becomes President Obama’s failure to create jobs and get this economy moving.”
