The Romney campaign has been vigorously attacking Rick Santorum for his votes on earmarks and the debt ceiling hikes, and for his long career as a politician. Now, they’ve launched a new attack: comparing Santorum to Newt Gingrich.
“Republican primary voters may be surprised to learn that Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum have a lot in common. Among other similarities, they are both career politicians who were removed from office by those who knew them best and chose to stay in D.C. afterward,” said Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul in a statement.
In an e-mail, the Romney campaign highlighted that both Gingrich and Santorum had had long political careers, both had chosen to live in Virginia, and both had failed to get on the Virginia primary ballot.
