Withdraw, Mr. Romney

It’s hard to understand Kellyanne Conway’s very public campaign against Mitt Romney, which began on Twitter and continued on the Sunday shows this morning, as anything other than an effort to force Romney to withdraw from consideration for Secretary of State. It must be unprecedented for a top aide of a president-elect to work against a potential cabinet pick so openly, and Conway left open the possibility on “This Week” this morning that what’s she doing has Trump’s sanction:

RADDATZ: But I — don’t understand why you took to Twitter on this, why you, Kellyanne Conway, took to Twitter on this.

Why not go to Mr. Trump?

Did he want you to tweet that?

Or is that just you talking?

CONWAY: I won’t discuss that.

But I will tell you that I’ve already weighed in privately because I’ve been asked to.

(Personally, as I’ve said before, I don’t think Romney is a good fit for this president or for this job.)
