It’s been a rocky couple of weeks for Mitt Romney, and according to polling data from the Washington Post/ABC News, his unfavorable ratings have risen significantly over the past couple of weeks. Among the key independent demographic, Romney’s unfavorable rating increased by 17 points to 51 percent, while his favorable rating decreased by 18 points to 23 percent. That puts him about on par with Gingrich: Romney’s net favorability rating among independent voters is – 28, while Gingrich’s is at -31. Among all voters, Romney’s net favorability is -18 to Gingrich’s -22. For Romney, who is counting on his perceived electability advantage to help him score a win in Florida, these numbers couldn’t come at a worse time.
