DeSantis Loves the President’s Musk

During the 2008 election and throughout the Obama administration, many of us around here voiced our dismay and disgust about the cult-like politicization of children.

Remember this?

Or this?

Well, this is grotesque in its own way:

Look, I get it’s a joke. Or at least it’s jokey enough that DeSantis can hide behind the satire while still getting his message out. In other words, he gets to say, “Of course I don’t hector my baby to be a Trump worshipper, that would be ridiculous,” while at the same time making it clear that anything short of that is right up his alley. As the saying goes, “Many a true word is spoken in jest.” Regardless, this is just painful. It’s like one of those episodes of The Office where Michael Scott doesn’t realize how embarrassed he should be, so you have to be embarrassed for him (the Germans call this fremdschämen).

DeSantis is a sitting member of the legislative branch running for governor of the State of Florida, and he is signaling that he’s a wholly owned creature of the president. I get that campaigning as Trump’s Renfield is apparently a smart play in a GOP primary, but you’d think there’d be some limits. DeSantis’s own pride clearly isn’t one of them.
