Rothman: Let’s Face It, the Western Press Wants Israel to Lose

As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, Western media have sided more and more with Hamas, said National Review senior writer Noah Rothman on today’s Editors episode.

Rothman quoted a New York Times piece, saying it was “grotesque”: “Your phones this morning blew up with this, quote, ‘While Israel has continued to decimate Gaza and its people from the air, its ground operation has been more incremental and shrouded in secrecy.’”

“The point here,” Rothman said, “is to undermine its support in the public. The point here is to hamper its operations in whatever ways are possible. The point here is to make sure that Israel’s mission is not achieved, and they do so under the guise of arguing for humanitarian purposes.”

There is a solution to this, Rothman said, and “if you ever cared at all about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, you should be hoping for the regime-change operation to succeed and succeed tomorrow, because on the other side of that is humanitarian relief.”

That can’t happen, though, until Israel is able to “oust Hamas, neutralize it, liquidate it as a regime, and replace it with something resembling a responsive government.”

He continued, “It has become increasingly hard to avoid the degree to which the Western press and American media want Israel to lose. Point blank. Want them to lose this war.”
