Actually my first thought, and I should have said so, was that the PM was trying to serve you up material!
But at the risk of being serious, I’ve always been a small “d” democrat and while I understand that the royals are said to be box office in terms of tourist dollars and such, if I were a modern citizen of Great Britain, I’d give them the heave ho (particularly since they began behaving like twits — but don’t ask me to date when that started). If they want to modernize the monarchy, why not start with a few basics like no longer requiring people to curtsy and bow (bow and scrape?).
