An anchor with RT, the English-language Russian network funded by the Kremlin, told viewers that she “will not sit here and apologize or defend military aggression” in Ukraine. “What Russia did is wrong,” Abby Martin said in her closing monologue on Monday.

On Tuesday, RT announced that it will be sending Martin to Crimea to learn more about the situation, which she admitted she did not know as much as she should about. The network also made it clear that its journalists can express their opinions and that RT “doesn’t beat its journalists into submission” on pro-Russian sentiments.

Martin echoed those sentiments in her original monologue, saying that she has editorial independence on the network. She also denounced the coverage of Ukraine for being “truly disappointing from all sides of the media spectrum and rife with misinformation.”

“Above all, my heart goes out to the Ukrainian people, who are now wedged as pawns in the middle of a global power chess game. They’re the real losers here. All we can do now is hope for a peaceful outcome for a terrible situation and prevent another full-blown Cold War between multiple superpowers. Until then, I’ll continue to tell the truth as I see it,” she concluded
