Rubio to Attend Fundraiser for Florida House Candidate

Another interesting data point as we await Marco Rubio’s decision on whether he’ll run for reelection to the Senate:

On Wednesday, Rubio is scheduled to be the “special guest” at a Washington, D.C. fundraiser for Brandon Patty, a candidate for Florida’s 6th District House seat, Patty tells National Review. He says Rubio’s office confirmed the event Tuesday.

Rubio’s office did not immediately respond to an email from National Review.

Patty is in an uncertain position as he, and everyone else, awaits a decision from Rubio on whether he’ll run for reelection. Patty is running for the seat currently held by representative Ron DeSantis. DeSantis, for now, is running to replace Rubio. But if Rubio decides to run for reelection, DeSantis may well wind up running for reelection to his 6th District seat. If that’s how the dominos fall, Patty and the other Republican candidates running in that district may have to reevaluate their plans.

“We’re in wait-and-see mode,” Patty says of his plans if that’s how things work out.

The filing deadline is Friday. Rubio said last Wednesday he would mull the decision over with his family. So far, he has announced no decision. Pressed by CNN Tuesday, Rubio would only say: “When I make a decision and I’m ready to announce, I’ll tell you.”
