The recent budget deal may avoid a government shutdown this year but will lead to a final, catastrophic fiscal crisis, despite Senator Patty Murray (D., Wash.) and Representative Paul Ryan’s (R., Wis.) efforts, according to Marco Rubio. He argued that the current deal is more of the same from Washington in leaving tough financial decisions for the future
“I don’t want a government shutdown, and that’s why I oppose this deal because I think this budget actually contributes to the day that we’re going to have a real shutdown of government,” he told Fox News. “Not because the Congress can’t pass a law, but because we have a debt crisis.”
“I just don’t think we have that time anymore” to come up with a deal that addresses the fiscal problems,” Rubio added.
In response to Ryan’s remarks that Rubio and other critics should read the deal before opposing it, Rubio said he was “well aware of what’s in the bill.” “It’s only confirmed our fears of what a bad deal it is,” he said.
