Rudy’s statement the other night contradicting the president on the Stormy Daniels payment and giving off the self-satisfied sense that he’d just closed the case was astonishingly brazen. Now, Giuliani is back-filling and re-explaining, and not convincingly (he says that Trump reimbursed Cohen for the payment without knowing he was reimbursing Cohen for the payment), while the president slapped him down today for not knowing all the facts.
This seems a classic instance of how it’s easier to keep your story straight if you simply tell the truth. They should try it — in all likelihood, Trump will be forced to do it sooner or later in this case anyway.
