Rudy the Good-Natured

Up here in NH, I saw Rudy at an event last night (noted here) and at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast today in Portsmouth. One notable thing about him on the campaign trail is what a happy warrior he is. He pokes fun at New York constantly, and people love it. Last night at the house party, someone knocked over a framed picture on a table with a loud bang while he was talking and he said, “In New York, they’d have thrown that at me.” Big laugh. This morning a woman got up and said he already had her vote and he immediately shot back, “So, now all I can do is talk you out of it.” Another big laugh. When reporters asked him last night about campaigning all over the country with the changed primary calendar he jokingly made a reference to the movie “Dave,” and said there will be body doubles of himself all around the country. He then added, “I love to campaign. We’ll do it endlessly and tirelessly,” with a pleased chuckle. And watching him at these events it seemed believable.
