It doesn’t look like it, and he’s doing his reputation no favors, but Rudy is succeeding at his mission. He’s not supposed to be a lawyer out there making a buttoned-up legal case. He’s a public advocate throwing haymakers and trying to dent Mueller’s credibility in advance of a possible impeachment case, which is ultimately a political matter, not a legal one. So the metric here is whether Mueller’s poll numbers are going up or down, and the signs are that his standing has been hurt.
This, by the way, is an amped-up, over-the-top version of what happens in any politically charged case, and in most special-counsel investigations. The most obvious exception I can think of is how George W. Bush cooperated with the Patrick Fitzgerald investigation into the Valerie Plame leak, and the credit Bush got from the opposition and the press was . . . exactly zero.
