Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wisc.) told Good Morning America today that House Republicans would agree to further short-term funding resolutions if they could not come to an agreement with Democrats in the Senate on a longer-term measure.
“If we don’t get agreement in the meantime, yes, we do think there’s going to be some sort of situation where there’s a short-term CR,” Ryan said on “Good Morning America.”
“I think we’re going to have to negotiate exactly how those short-term CRs occur,” he added.
But it’s unclear how a short-term C.R. could in significantly change the dynamics of the spending battle — and particularly the distaste for the $100 billion in proposed cuts on the Democratic side — without the credible threat of a shut down. Also, the longer we get into the current fiscal year without doing the proposed cuts, the larger they will have to be to maintain the nominal $100-billion tag.
