The Corner

Sam Vaughan, R.I.P.

Sam Vaughan, long-time editor of WFB and many others (e.g., President Eisenhower), died last week, age 83. He suggested Bill write fiction, thus midwifing Blackford Oakes. He also edited Keith Mano’s terrific novel, Take Five, and my first book, The Outside Story. Sam was a sharp editor, but also gracious and old-school — a delight to work with.
